British Airways Boeing 747-436 G-BNLP operating BA217 London Heathrow – Washington encountered a lightning strike on departure from London. Once the emergency was cleared it was apparent that crew would not be able to reach Singapore within hours and so the aircraft will remain in Kiev until the early hours of tomorrow.
