The highest status passengers have been allocated seats on the following BA3 service, remaining passengers have been accommodated overnight and will continue on Aer Lingus tomorrow after a plan to divert today’s BA179 London Heathrow – New York via Shannon was abandoned when it became clear that pre-cleared passengers could not enter the US on the same flight as non pre-cleared passengers. As a result tonights BA2 New York JFK – London City has been cancelled.

Following an incident involving a Swiss Avro RJ-100 which closed the runway at London City for a period, all passengers booked on BA3 London City – Shannon – New York JFK were transferred to London Heathrow and accommodated on mainline services. When the London City runway did re-open British Airways A318 G-EUNB operated BA3 with no passengers in order to be in New York to operated the heavily loaded return BA4 service.

British Airways A318 G-EUNB Bleed Valve Issue Causes BA3/4 Cancellation.

British Airways A318 G-EUNB still had a bleed air fault today causing the cancellation of the BA3/BA4 London City – New York JFK. The aircraft could not operate via the same non Etops Shannon – New York JFK route as yesterday due to increased headwinds meaning the aircraft would have needed a further technical stop.

British Airways A318 G-EUNB operating BA3 London City – Shannon – New York JFK encountered a bleed valve fault today requiring the flight to operate a non-Etops routing which required the airports at Iqaluit and Kangerlussuaq to remain open to provide diversionary cover. The routing meant the Shannon – New York JFK sector took around 90 minutes longer than usual.
