31st December 2011 - G-YMMD BA273 Los Angeles Diversion.

Boeing 777-236ER G-YMMD operating BA273 London Heathrow - San Diego diverted to Los Angeles today due to low visibility at San Diego. As a result the return BA272 will operate from Los Angeles as a day flight tomorrow.

31st December 2011 - G-CIVV BA56 Johannesburg Issue.

Boeing 747-436 G-CIVV operating BA56 Johannesburg - London Heathrow rejected take off tonight with what we understand is an engine failure. Passengers are being accommodated overnight.

31st December 2011 - G-DOCG Innsbruck Issue.

Boeing 747-436 G-DOCG operating BA2690 London Gatwick - Innsbruck aborted the approach due to a technical issue and entered a hold to divert to Munich whilst the crew worked the checklists. A decision was made to go to Innsbruck but on landing the aircraft sucked de-icing fluid in through an air conditioning unit causing mist to appear in the cabin. The return BA2691 was subsequently cancelled.

31st December 2011 - G-STBE Enters Service.

Boeing 777-36NER G-STBE entered service today unusually operating BA189 London Heathrow - Newark. Newark is not normally a Boeing 777-300ER route and this is the first visit of a BA 777-300ER to Newark.

31st December 2011 - G-YMMP to London Gatwick.

Boeing 777-236ER G-YMMP positioned London Heathrow - London Gatwick this morning as BA9159 taking up service as BA2153 to Bridgetown, Barbados.

31st December 2011 - New Year Non Ops.

The BA195/BA194 London Heathrow - Houston and BA295/BA294 London Heathrow - Chicago rotations do not operate today.

30th December 2011 - BA2154 Overnight Delay.

BA2154 Bridgetown, Barbados - London Gatwick has been delayed overnight and will operate twelve hours late as a day flight tomorrow using callsign BA9602. Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIB is the operating aircraft. It is not clear if the delay is technical or medical.

30th December 2011 - G-STBE to London Heathrow.

Boeing 777-36NER G-STBE positioned Cardiff-Wales - London Heathrow today as BA9172.

30th December 2011 - G-CIVG Returns From Cardiff Maintenance.

Boeing 747-436 G-CIVG positioned Cardiff-Wales - London Heathrow today as BA9172. This aircraft was already fitted with New First.

30th December 2011 - G-VIIP Operates Truncated BA2157.

The BA2157/BA2156 London Gatwick - Antigua - San Juan rotation is only operating as far as Antigua today. Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIP is working the flight.

30th December 2011 - G-CIVU BA142 Delay.

Boeing 747-436 G-CIVU arrived into Delhi this morning as BA143 but the return BA142 has been delayed for 24 hours and will operate tomorrow as BA142. This may be due to cabin crew shortages with some crew having been called in to operate G-YMMP from Delhi - Singapore yesterday.

29th December 2011 - G-CIVO Positions JFK - Heathrow.

Boeing 747-436 G-CIVO departed New York JFK this evening positioning empty to London Heathrow as BA9178.

29th December 2011 - G-VIIU Birdstrike Damage.

Yesterday’s bird strike has caused serious damage to the port side leading edges and engine and will be out of service for some days.

29th December 2011 - G-VIIU Toronto Birdstrike. G-BNLT Rescue Mission.

Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIU suffered a birdstrike on approach to Toronto whilst operating BA93 London Heathrow - Toronto yesterday. As a result Boeing 747-436 G-BNLT positioned New York JFK - Toronto this morning as BA116F and then operated yesterday’s delayed BA92 Toronto - London Heathrow as a day flight today.

28th December 2011 - G-YMMP BA15 Adventure.

Boeing 777-236ER G-YMMP operating BA15 London Heathrow - Singapore - Sydney (depart London 27 December) diverted to Ashgabat in Turkmenistan due to medical issues with a crew member. After several hours on the ground the aircraft then diverted to Delhi as crew were about to run out of hours. The aircraft finally arrived into Singapore 22 hours behind schedule. As a result the flight was terminated at Singapore and subsequently the Sydney - Singapore sector of BA16 departing on 29 December is also cancelled.

27th December 2011 - G-BNLT JFK Issue.

Boeing 747-436 G-BNLT operated BA175 London Heathrow - New York JFK today but its scheduled return flight BA116 has been cancelled. This would normally suggest a technical issue with the aircraft although we have also received reports that the flight was cancelled due to an ill First Officer.

27th December 2011 - G-YMMO to London Gatwick.

Boeing 777-236ER G-YMMO positioned London Heathrow - London Gatwick today as BA9156 immediately taking up service as BA2233 London Gatwick - Bermuda.

24th December 2011 - Bangalore 747 Switch.

With Boeing 747-436 G-BNLX having made it to Bangalore yesterday as the delayed and diverted BA119 of 21 December and sister G-CIVA arriving this morning as the scheduled BA119 there were two 747-400s in Bangalore this morning. G-BNLX operated the scheduled BA118 to London Heathrow and G-CIVA positioned to Heathrow empty as BA9272.

23rd December 2011 - G-CIVK to Cardiff Maintenance.

Boeing 747-436 G-CIVK positioned London Heathrow - Cardiff-Wales today as BA9176.

23rd December 2011 - G-BNLX Makes it to Bangalore.

Following its diversion to Chennai on 21 December Boeing 747-436 completed its journey to Bangalore today.

23rd  December 2011 - G-EUOH to Prestwick Maintenance.

Airbus A319 G-EUOH positioned London Heathrow - Prestwick today as BA9274.

23rd December 2011 - G-EUPO Returns from Glasgow Maintenance.

Airbus A319 G-EUPO positioned Glasgow - London Heathrow today as BA9273.

23rd December 2011 - G-EUNA to Gatwick Maintenance.

Airbus A318 G-EUNA positioned London City - London Gatwick as BA9272 this morning.

22nd December 2011 - G-EUPS Back at Gatwick.

Airbus A319 G-EUPS, which has been under maintenance at Glasgow since 20 November, returned to traffic today as BA2953 Glasgow - London Gatwick and worked rotations from Gatwick for the rest of the day. This aircraft has spent the past two years as one of the Gatwick Summer A319 allocation.

22nd December 2011 - 777 to Moscow.

Four Class Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIE operated the BA872/BA873 London Heathrow - Moscow Domedodovo rotation today in place of the usual Boeing 767-300.

22nd December 2011 - IAG Enters Binding Agreement to buy bmi British Midland International.

BA parent International Airlines Group has entered a binding agreement to purchase bmi British Midland International from Lufthansa. Key points of the deal are:

£172.5 Million Cash Purchase.

56 London Heathrow slot pairs to pass to IAG.

Lufthansa to retain bmi British Midland International’s defined benefit pension scheme.

Lufthansa has the option to sell bmibaby and bmi Regional separately. If it cannot do this then they will pass to IAG but the total purchase price for the deal will be reduced significantly.


The bmi group has sixty aircraft across its three brands consisting of two Airbus A330-200s, seven A321s, seven A320s, eleven A319s, twelve Boeing 737-300s, two Boeing 737-500s, fifteen Embraer 145s and four Embraer 135s.

21st December 2011 - G-BNLX BA119 Chennai Diversion.

Boeing 747-436 G-BNLX operating BA119 London Heathrow - Bangalore diverted to Chennai today in what appears to be a technical diversion. The aircraft is not expected to operate on to Chennai until 23 December. As a result BA118 Bangalore - London Heathrow on 22 December is cancelled.

21st December 2011 - G-BNWT Returns to Heathrow.

Moscow Domedodovo technical issue aircraft Boeing 767-336ER G-BNWT positioned back to London Heathrow this evening as BA9277E from London Gatwick.

20th December 2011 - G-BNWT positions Moscow - Gatwick.

Moscow Domedodovo technical issue aircraft Boeing 767-336ER G-BNWT positioned out of Moscow  this evening as BA9277 and headed to London Gatwick rather than Heathrow, seemingly due to its 0030 arrival on 21 December.

20th December 2011 - G-EUXL BA1486 Heathrow Return.

Airbus A321 G-EUXL operating BA1486 London Heathrow - Glasgow returned to Heathrow after fumes in the cockpit caused both pilots to feel lightheaded and to deploy their oxygen masks. The flight subsequently operated with sister G-EUXF.

20th December 2011 - 747 Cardiff Maintenance Swap.

Boeing 747-436 G-CIVJ positioned London Heathrow - Cardiff-Wales today as BA9171. Sister G-CIVC positioned Cardiff-Wales - London Heathrow as BA9172.

8th December 2011 - G-EUPP Manchester Overnight.

Airbus A319 G-EUPP operated BA1404 London Heathrow - Manchester arriving 70 minutes late. The return BA1409 was cancelled after boarding when it became clear arrival into Heathrow would be past midnight.

8th December 2011 - G-BNLG Test Flight.

Following yesterday’s return to the stand at London Heathrow and the subsequent cancellation of the BA215/BA215 London Heathrow - Boston rotation Boeing 747-436 G-BNLG undertook a test flight from London Heathrow today as BA9173, routing to the tip of Cornwall before returning to London.

8th December 2011 - Scotland Weather Cancellations.

High winds and snow in Scotland have caused the cancellation of the following rotations:

8th December 2011 - G-VIIX Returns to Heathrow.

Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIX returned to London Heathrow this morning positioning from London Gatwick as BA9155.

8th December 2011 - 747-400 Cardiff Maintenance Movements.

Boeing 747-436 G-CIVC positioned London Heathrow - Cardiff-Wales this morning as BA9171. Sister G-CIVG positioned London Heathrow - Cardiff-Wales as BA9275 in the afternoon. G-BNLY positioned Cardiff-Wales - London Heathrow as BA9276. New First status on this aircraft is not confirmed.

7th December 2011 - G-GBTB Pristina Technical Issue.

Boeing 737-436 G-GBTB arrived into Pristina as BA2682 from London Gatwick but the return BA2683 has been delayed until tomorrow indicating a technical issue with the aircraft.

7th December 2011 - G-DOCF BA2642 Athens Diversion.

Boeing 737-436 G-DOCF operating BA2642 London Gatwick - Thessaloniki diverted to Athens today. This appears to have been a technical diversion as other flights into Thessaloniki were operating normally. The aircraft returned to London Gatwick as BA9250.

7th December 2011 - Bad Start for G-BNLG.

Boeing 747-436 G-BNLG was scheduled to operate its first passenger service since September 2009 today as BA215 to Boston. Unfortunately after pushback a technical problem was discovered which we understand involved the pitot tubes. The fault could not be rectified and the BA215/BA214 rotation was subsequently cancelled.

There has been an uncomfortably large number of airport returning from maintenance at Cardiff-Wales this year which have subsequently encountered technical issues on or before their first flight back in service.

7th December 2011 - Prestwick Maintenance Swap

Airbus A320 G-EUUB positioned London Heathrow - Prestwick this afternoon as BA9272. Airbus A319 G-EUOI then positioned Prestwick - London Heathrow as BA9273.

7th December 2011 - G-VIIL Back from Cardiff.

Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIL positioned Cardiff-Wales - London Heathrow this afternoon as BA9172.

7th December 2011 - G-TTOB Returns from Lisbon.

Lisbon technical issue aircraft Airbus A320 G-TTOB positioned Lisbon - London Heathrow today as BA9278.

7th December 2011 - G-DOCE BA2690 Munich Diversion.

Boeing 737-436 G-DOCE operating BA2690 London Gatwick - Innsbruck diverted to Munich today due to weather at Innsbruck.

6th December 2011 - G-DOCH Returns from Italy.

Boeing 737-436 G-DOCH, out of service at Catania since 3 December, positioned Catania - London Gatwick today as BA9277.

6th December 2011 - Munich Disruptions.

BA960 London Heathrow - Munich operated by Airbus A321 G-EUXM diverted via Stuttgart today due to weather. The following BA958 London Heathrow - Munich and the return BA957 were cancelled.

6th December 2011 - G-TTOB Lisbon Technical Issue.

Airbus A320 G-TTOB arrived into Lisbon yesterday as BA504 but this morning’s BA499 Lisbon - London Heathrow has been cancelled indicating a technical problem with the aircraft.

5th December 2011 - 777-300ER for Los Angeles and Shanghai.

Amendments to the Summer 2012 timetable that went live today indicate Boeing 777-300ER operations. BA169/BA168 London Heathrow - Shanghai will be operated by Boeing 777-300ERs daily except on Tuesday’s BA169 and Wednesday’s BA168. BA279/BA278 London Heathrow - Los Angeles will see 777-300ER operations daily.

5th December 2011 - Non Ops.

The BA43/BA42 London Heathrow - Cape Town and BA2942/BA2943 London Gatwick - Edinburgh rotations did not operate today.

5th December 2011 - G-BNLB Break Up.

The break up of withdrawn Boeing 747-436 G-BNLB commenced at Cardiff-Wales today.

4th December 2011 - G-VIIX to London Gatwick.

New First fitted Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIX positioned London Heathrow - London Gatwick this evening as BA9153.

4th December 2011 - Jeddah Gets Euro 767 Again.

The BA133/BA132 London Heathrow - Jeddah rotation was operated tonight by European configuration Boeing 767-336ER G-BZHA.

4th December 2011 - G-EUNB Back in Service.

Airbus A318 G-EUNB positioned London Gatwick - London City this morning as BA9271 before operating BA3 to Shannon and New York JFK.

3rd December 2011 - G-EUXI Returns from Glasgow Maintenance.

Airbus A321 G-EUXI positioned Glasgow - London Heathrow this evening as BA9271.

3rd December 2011 - G-DOCH Catania Technical Issue leads to G-DOCN Diversion.

Boeing 737-436 G-DOCH operated BA2594 London Gatwick - Catania today but was unable to operate the return BA2595 due to a technical issue. Sister G-DOCN which had operated BA2540 London Gatwick - Rome Fiumicino positioned Rome Fiumicino - Catania and operated BA2595 back to London  Gatwick. BA2541 Rome Fiumicino - London Gatwick was therefore cancelled.

3rd December 2011 - Jeddah Gets Euro 767.

The BA133/BA132 London Heathrow - Jeddah rotation was operated tonight by European configuration Boeing 767-336ER G-BZHC.

3rd December 2011 - G-EUNB to Gatwick Maintenance.

Airbus A318 G-EUNB positioned London City - London Gatwick this morning as BA9270.

2nd December 2011 - Euro 767 to Dubai.

European configuration Boeing 767-336ER G-BZHB operated tonight’s BA105 London Heathrow - Dubai and will return as BA104 tomorrow. Business and World Traveller Plus sales were closed out from early afternoon when the switch was known.

2nd December 2011 - BA49 Technical Delay.

BA49 London Heathrow - Seattle was delayed by several hours today after the original operating Boeing 747-436 (unknown) returned to the stand with a technical issue after pushing back. The fault could not be rectified and with no spare Boeing 747s available at London Heathrow the flight was delayed until it could be operated by G-BYGC inbound off BA178 New York JFK - London Heathrow.

2nd December 2011 - G-VIIV Returns to Heathrow.

Following a single London Gatwick - Bridgetown rotation Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIV positioned London Gatwick - London Heathrow as BA9152 and took up service as BA109 London Heathrow - Dubai.

1st December 2011 - G-VIIT Back In Service.

Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIT departed Tampa this evening as yesterday’s delayed BA2166 to London Gatwick using callsign BA9609.

1st December 2011 - G-BNLV BA10 Darwin Diversion.

Boeing 747-436 G-BNLV operating BA10 Sydney - Bangkok - London Heathrow diverted via Darwin on the Sydney - Bangkok leg due to a passenger with a medical issue.

1st December 2011 - G-STBE Returns from Painting.

Boeing 777-36NER G-STBE returned from Portland to Paine Field following painting.

1st December 2011 - G-VIIV to London Gatwick.

19th December 2011 - G-DOCL Returns to Gatwick.

Boeing 737-436 G-DOCL positioned Geneva - London Gatwick this evening as BA9278.

19th December 2011 - G-BNWI Jeddah Bird Strike.

Boeing 767-336ER G-BWNI operated BA133 London Heathrow - Jeddah arriving this morning, however on approach to Jeddah the aircraft suffered a bird strike and the return BA132 has been cancelled.

19th December 2011 - G-DOCL Geneva Issue.

Boeing 737-436 G-DOCL operated BA2736 London Gatwick - Geneva this morning but the return BA2737 was cancelled indicating a technical issue with the aircraft.

19th December 2011 - BA62 via Athens Again.

BA62 Entebbe - London Heathrow operated by Boeing 767-336ER G-BNWM again routed via Athens this morning due to continuing fuel supply issues at Entebbe.

19th December 2011 - BA365 Runs Empty.

BA265 Lyon - London Heathrow ran empty this morning due to the security personnel strike at Lyon. This was due to end this morning and other flights will operate normally.

18th December 2011 - G-EUPU Hahn Diversion.

Airbus A319 G-EUPU operating BA916 London Heathrow - Frankfurt diverted to Hahn late tonight. As a result BA901 Frankfurt - London Heathrow is cancelled tomorrow and the aircraft will position Hahn - London Heathrow as BA901P.

18th December 2011 - G-EUXH BA475 Gatwick Diversion.

BA475 Barcelona - London Heathrow operated by Airbus A321 G-EUXH diverted via London Gatwick this afternoon apparently due to long hold times into London Heathrow.

18th December 2011 - G-YMMU Euro Trip.

Three Class Boeing 777-236ER G-YMMU operated the BA458/BA459 London Heathrow - Madrid rotation today to provide extra capacity to cover for a pilots strike at Iberia.

18th December 2011 - Gatwick Non Op.

The BA2748/BA2749 London Gatwick - Geneva rotation did not operate today.

18th November 2011 - Lyon Situation Continues.

Security staff strike action at Lyon means todays services will again operate with passengers outbound but return empty to London Heathrow.

17th December 2011 - G-BNWT Moscow Technical Issue.

Yesterday’s BA875 Moscow Domedodovo - London Heathrow , which was expected to operate today, has now been cancelled. This indicates that the technical issue suffered by Boeing 767-336ER G-BNWT has not been rectified.

17th December 2011 - G-BNWM BA62 Athens Diversion.

Boeing 767-336ER G-BNWM operating BA62 Entebbe - London Heathrow diverted via Athens due to fuel supply issues at Entebbe.

17th December 2011 - Further Lyon Cancellations.

All Lyon - London Heathrow services are cancelled today due to continued strike action by security personnel. Outbound services to Lyon are operating normally with aircraft returning empty.

16th December 2011 - G-BNWT Moscow Technical Issue.

Boeing 767-336ER G-BNWT operated BA874 London Heathrow - Moscow Domedodovo but the return BA875 has been delayed until tomorrow due to a technical issue with the aircraft.

16th December 2011 - Lyon Non Ops.

In addition to the Manchester cancellations due to strike action by security personnel the BA361 Lyons - London Heathrow and the BA362/BA363 London Heathrow - Lyon rotations are cancelled. The outbound BA360 London Heathrow - Lyon was operated by Airbus A321 G-EUXD which returned as BA361 without passengers.

16th December 2011 - Manchester Cancellations.

Snow caused Manchester Airport to be closed for a short time this morning causing the cancellation of the BA1386/BA1391 London Heathrow - Manchester rotation.

BA2902 London Gatwick - Manchester operated by Boeing 737-436 G-DOCO returned to London Gatwick having failed to get into Manchester and therefore BA2903 Manchester - London Gatwick was cancelled.

16th December 2011 - G-EUOB Returns as BA9272.

Barcelona baggage handling damage aircraft Airbus A319 G-EUOB positioned back to London Heathrow today as BA9272 following a temporary repair.

16th December 2011 - G-DOCW BA2758 Gatwick Return.

BA2758 London Gatwick - Amsterdam operated by Boeing 737-436 G-DOCW returned to London Gatwick for unknown reasons before recommencing the flight.

15th December 2011 - G-BNWO Operates Delayed BA105.

Boeing 767-336ER G-BNWO operated yesterday’s delayed BA105 London Heathrow - Dubai this evening as BA105X running around 90 minutes ahead of today’s scheduled BA105 operated by sister G-BNWH.

15th December 2011 - G-BNWI Returns as BA9601.

Yesterday’s delayed BA264 Washington - London Heathrow was operated today by Boeing 767-336ER G-BNWI as BA9601.

14th December 2011 - G-CIVS BA12 Delay.

Boeing 747-436 G-CIVS arrived into Singapore today as BA11 from London Heathrow but the return BA12 has been delayed by 24 hours indicating a technical issue with the aircraft.

15th December 2011 - G-CIVS Returns as BA12X.

Yesterday’s delayed BA12 Singapore - London Heathrow was operated today by Boeing 747-436 G-CIVS as BA12X

15th December 2011 - G-EUOB Barcelona Baggage Bash.

Airbus A319 G-EUOB operated BA470 London Heathrow - Barcelona today but the return BA471 was cancelled due to a body panel being punctured by baggage handlers.

15th December 2011 - G-BYGB BA49 Edmonton Diversion.

BA49 London Heathrow - Seattle operated by Boeing 747-436 G-BYGB diverted into Edmonton today. It appears that this was a medical diversion.

14th December 2011 - G-BNWI BA264 Delay.

Boeing 767-336ER G-BNWI arrived into Washington today as BA265 but the return BA264 has been delayed by 24 hours indicating a technical issue with the aircraft.

14th December 2011 - BA105 24 Hour Delay.

Today’s BA105/BA104 London Heathrow - Dubai rotation has been delayed by 24 hours due to a lack of serviceable Boeing 767-300ERs.

12th December 2011 - G-EUOC Returns to Heathrow.

Zurich smoke aircraft Airbus A319 G-EUOC positioned back to London Heathrow today as BA9270.

11th December 2011 - G-EUOC Zurich Smoke Incident.

Airbus A319 G-EUOC operating BA720 London Heathrow - Zurich  was close to Zurich when an electrical smell became apparent in the cabin and cockpit. The approach was accelerated and the aircraft landed safely with fire crews in attendance and flight crew wearing oxygen masks. The aircraft was able to taxi to the gate normally. The return BA709 Zurich - London Heathrow tomorrow has been cancelled.

11th December 2011 - G-EUOC Zurich Smoke Incident.

Airbus A319 G-EUOC operating BA720 London Heathrow - Zurich  was close to Zurich when an electrical smell became apparent in the cabin and cockpit. The approach was accelerated and the aircraft landed safely with fire crews in attendance and flight crew wearing oxygen masks. The aircraft was able to taxi to the gate normally. The return BA709 Zurich - London Heathrow tomorrow has been cancelled.

Boeing 747-436 G-BNLG finally returned to service today operating the BA215/BA214 London Heathrow - Boston rotation.

10th December 2011 - Further G-BNLG Test Flight.

Boeing 747-436 G-BNLG undertook a further test flight from London Heathrow this afternoon again routing to the tip of Cornwall before returning to London.

9th December 2011 - G-STBE on Delivery.

Boeing 777-36NER G-STBE departed Paine Field on delivery as BA9176 to Cardiff-Wales today.

9th December 2011 - G-EUPP Returns to Heathrow.

Manchester overnighting aircraft A319 G-EUPP returned to Heathrow today positioning south in the early afternoon as BA9251 following the minimum crew rest period.

9th December 2011 - G-YMMA BA272 Chicago Diversion.

Boeing 777-236ER G-YMMA operating BA272 San Diego - London Heathrow (depart San Diego 8 December) diverted via Chicago this morning. This appears to be a medical rather than technical diversion.
