The following shorthaul flights from London Gatwick are cancelled today:

11th May 2011 - Tel Aviv Fuel All Clear.

Fuel at Tel Aviv airport was cleared for use again today. BA162 operated by Boeing 767-336ER G-BNWC operated via Larnaca however BA164 operated by Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIY was able to refuel at Tel Aviv and route directly to Heathrow.

10th May 2011 - Tel Aviv Larnaca Diversions.

Both Tel Aviv - London Heathrow services operated via Larnaca today to collect fuel. BA162 operated by Boeing 767-336ER G-BNWW and BA164 operated by Boeing 777-236 G-ZZZA.


9th May 2011 - Tel Aviv Larnaca Diversions.

Both Tel Aviv - London Heathrow services operated via Larnaca today to collect fuel. BA162 operated by Boeing 767-336ER G-BNWW and BA164 operated by Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIU.

8th May 2011 - G-VIIY BA186 cancellation.

BA186 Newark - London Heathrow was cancelled due to technical problems with scheduled aircraft Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIY. Passengers were rebooked on flights departing 9th May and accommodated overnight. G-VIIY returned empty to London Heathrow overnight on 9th May as BA9605.

8th May 2011 - G-VIIG BA138 Delay.

Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIG operated BA138 Mumbai - London Heathrow around 12 hours late today. The outbound BA139 operated to time and the delay is understood to be due to technical issues with the aircraft.

8th May 2011 - Tel Aviv Larnaca Diversions.

Both Tel Aviv - London Heathrow services operated via Larnaca today to collect fuel. BA162 operated by Boeing 767-336ER G-BNWM and BA164 operated by Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIN.

7th May 2011 - Tel Aviv Larnaca Diversions.

Both Tel Aviv - London Heathrow services operated via Larnaca today to collect fuel. BA162 operated by Boeing 767-336ER G-BNWC and BA164 operated by Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIY.

7th May 2011 - G-YMMT BA219 Iceland DIversion.

BA219 London Heathrow - Denver operated by Boeing 777-236ER G-YMMT diverted via Keflavik due to a medical emergency on board.

6th May 2011 - Heathrow Italy Cancellations:

Due to strike action in Italy the following rotations from Heathrow were cancelled today:

BA552/BA553 London Heathrow - Rome Fiumicino.

BA564/BA565 London Heathrow - Milan Linate.

BA572/BA573 London Heathrow - Milan Malpensa.

BA576/BA577 London Heathrow - Milan Linate.

6th May 2011 - Gatwick cancellations and diversions.

The following rotations were cancelled from London Gatwick due to strike action in Italy today:

BA2582/BA2583 London Gatwick - Venice.

BA2560/BA2561 London Gatwick - Bologna.

BA2606/BA2607 London Gatwick - Naples.

Meanwhile an unspecified runway closure caused BA8038 Jersey - London Gatwick operated by Boeing 737-436 G-DOCH to divert to Bournemouth. As a result this aircraft’s next scheduled rotation, BA8117/BA8118 London Gatwick - Amsterdam was cancelled.

In order to clear the backlog of Amsterdam passengers Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIP was used to operate the BA8119/BA8110 London Gatwick - Amsterdam rotation.

6th May 2011 - Further Tel Aviv fuel diversion.

Due to continuing problems with contaminated fuel at Tel Aviv BA164 operated by Boeing 777-236 G-ZZZA routed Tel Aviv - Larnaca - London Heathrow today in order to refuel in Larnaca.

6th May 2011 - G-YMMI to Cardiff maintenance.

Boeing 777-236ER G-YMMI positioned London Heathrow - Cardiff-Wales as BA9172. This aircraft will have new First fitted and thus all Rolls Royce powered 4 Class 777s in service from this point will have the new cabin. As these aircraft have the overhead crew rest areas required for longer sectors it means that during the current timetable the following flights are guaranteed to have the new First cabin:

6th May 2011 - Second Tel Aviv Fuel Diversion.

Due to fuel contamination at Tel Aviv airport BA162 operated by Boeing 767-336ER G-BNWM routed Tel Aviv - Larnaca - London Heathrow in order to refuel in Larnaca.

5th May 2011 - Terminal 5C arrivals.

Terminal 5C has begun to accept arrivals at two gates. The rail link from the main Terminal to Terminal 5B is therefore now operating to Terminal 5C.


5th May 2011 - Tel Aviv Fuel Contamination.

Due to fuel contamination at Tel Aviv airport BA164 operated by Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIC routed Tel Aviv - Larnaca - London Heathrow in order to refuel in Larnaca.


4th May 2011 - 777 Cardiff Maintenance Swap.

Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIV positioned London Heathrow - Cardiff-Wales as BA9178. Sister G-VIIU positioned Cardiff-Wales - London Heathrow as BA9179. Both aircraft already have New First cabins fitted.

3rd May 2011 - Atlantic Airways OY-RCE operates for CityFlyer.

Atlantic Airways RJ-85 OY-RCE operated on the London City - Copenhagen route today. This is expected to continue for some weeks. London City to Edinburgh and Glasgow flights have increased in frequency from today and this wet lease enables an E170 to be freed up to operate the Scotland services.

2nd May 2011 - G-YMMF operates final Sharm El Sheikh service.

The final BA2055/BA2054 London Gatwick - Sharm El Sheikh rotation departed Gatwick tonight operated by 3 Class Boeing 777-236ER G-YMMF.

2nd May 2011 - G-YMMJ BA296 Cancellation.

BA296 Chicago - London Heathrow was cancelled today. The outbound BA297 was operated on time by Boeing 777-236ER G-YMMJ. The aircraft positioned empty to London Heathrow overnight on 3rd May as BA9604.

2nd May 2011 - G-BNWN BA62 incident.

Boeing 767-336ER G-BNWN operating BA62 Entebbe - London Heathrow was attended by fire crews on landing at London. Runway 27L was closed for around 20 minutes as the aircraft was towed to the terminal.


2nd May 2011 - G-YMMO back from Cardiff.

Boeing 777-236ER G-YMMO positioned Cardiff-Wales - London Heathrow today as BA9173. This aircraft is confirmed as having New First fitted.


2nd May 2011 - A318 G-EUNA back at London City.

Following maintenance at London Gatwick A318 G-EUNA returned to London City today as BA9271 immediately taking up service as BA3 to Shannon and New York JFK.

Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIH positioned London Heathrow - Cardiff-Wales as BA9172.


30th May 2011 - G-VIIF Barbados Bird Strike.

Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIF operating BA2155 London Gatwick - Bridgetown, Barbados struck a bird on approach to Bridgetown. The return flight BA2154 was delayed for 30 hours whilst repairs were effected.


30th May 2011 - BA7/8 London Heathrow - Tokyo Haneda recommences.

The BA7/BA8 London Heathrow - Tokyo Haneda service recommenced today after being suspended for several weeks. Today’s service was operated by 4 Class Boeing 777-236ER G-YMMK.

30th May 2011 - G-EUOE BA377 Diversion.

BA377 Toulouse - London Heathrow operated by A319 G-EUOE diverted to Bordeaux soon after take off. After around 45 minutes on the ground the aircraft departed for Heathow.

28th May 2011 - G-EUPX BA867 Cancellation.

BA867 Budapest - London Heathrow was cancelled today due to technical problems with A319 G-EUPX which had operated the outbound BA866. G-EUPX returned to Heathrow empty as BA9274 on 29th May.

The BA1452/BA1459 London Heathrow - Edinburgh and BA193/BA192 London Heathrow - Dallas-Fort Worth rotations were cancelled today.

25th May 2011 -  G-BNLO BA247 Viracopos Diversion.

BA247 London Heathrow - Sao Paolo (depart Heathrow 24th May) operated by Boeing 747-436 G-BNLO diverted into Viracopos this morning for fuel due to fog at Sao Paolo.

25th May 2011 -  G-EUUH Test Flight Results.

Following yesterday’s test flight IAG Chief Willie Walsh has publicly stated that the flight passed through the ash red zone for a total of 45 minutes and flight data recorders showed no abnormalities at all.

23rd May 2011 - G-VIIG BA239 Shannon Diversion.

Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIG operating BA239 London Heathrow - Shannon was approximately 100 miles west of Ireland when it turned back to Shannon due to smoke in the cabin. Passengers were accommodated overnight and the flight was eventually cancelled with most passengers transferred back to London Heathrow with Aer Lingus and then onto other BA flights. The aircraft had returned from maintenance at Cardiff earlier today. The aircraft positioned empty to London Heathrow as BA9156



23rd May 2011 - G-BYGB BA98 Toronto Delay.

BA98 Toronto - London Heathrow scheduled to be operated by Boeing 747-438 G-BYGB at 2045 was cancelled. The aircraft positioned empty Toronto - London Heathrow overnight on 24th May as BA9606.

23rd May 2011 - G-CPEN Fedex Test Flight.

Boeing 757-200 G-CPEN made a London Gatwick - London Gatwick test flight today as BA9279. The aircraft will become N752FD.

23rd May 2011 - CityFlyer leased RJ85 swap.

Atlantic Airways RJ-85 OY-RCE, which has been operating for BA CityFlyer from London Heathrow since 2nd May was replaced today by sister OY-RCD.

23rd May 2011 -  777 Cardiff maintenance swap.

Boeing 777-236ERG-YMMS positioned London Heathrow - Cardiff-Wales as BA9172. Sister G-VIIG positioned Cardiff-Wales - London Heathrow. This aircraft has not been fitted with new First.

23rd May 2011 - High Winds cause Domestic Chaos.

High winds in Scotland caused closures at all Scottish airports and caused the following diversions and cancellations today:

BA1312 London Heathrow - Aberdeen operated by A321 G-EUXM diverted to Glasgow.

BA1314 London Heathrow - Aberdeen operated by A321 G-EUXE diverted to Newcastle.

BA1448 London Heathrow - Edinburgh operated by A320 G-EUUP diverted to Glasgow.

BA1313 and BA1315 Aberdeen - London Heathrow were therefore cancelled.

BA1452, BA1454, BA1458 and BA1462 London Heathrow - Edinburgh were cancelled.

22nd May 2011 - G-CIVJ BA86 Volcano delay.

Boeing 747-436 G-CIVJ arrived into Vancouver today as BA87 and was prevented from operating its scheduled return flight BA86 to London Heathrow on time due to additional checks needed on the aircraft after it had flown close to the ash cloud of the Grimsvotn volcano on the outbound journey. The aircraft got underway at 1400 on 23rd May.

21st May 2011 -  G-CIVF to Cardiff maintenance.

Boeing 747-436 G-CIVF positioned London Heathrow - Cardiff-Wales as BA9172.

20th May 2011 - Terminal 5C soft opening for Departures.

Terminal 5C is now handling departures with two gates available initially. It is understood that official opening will commence with the launch of the new Boeing 777-200 service to San Diego on 1st June. Terminal 5C is smaller than Terminal 5B and has 11 gates (C52-C57 and C61-C66). There is no lounge facility in the terminal but space has been allocated should one be required at a later date. The train from the main Terminal operates via Terminal 5B to Terminal 5C. The new terminal will reduce but not completely alleviate the need for bus transfers from Gate A10.

20th May 2011 -  G-YMML at YMML.

Boeing 777-236ER G-YMML operating BA15 London Heathrow - Singapore - Sydney (depart London 18th May) diverted into Melbourne today due to fog in Sydney. The ICAO code for Melbourne is YMML.

19th May 2011 -  G-BYGG back from Cardiff.

Boeing 747-436 G-BYGG positioned Cardiff-Wales - London Heathrow as BA9171. This aircraft is already fitted with New First.

18th May 2011 - A320 G-EUYL First Flight.

Operating as F-WWDY Airbus A320 G-EUYL made its first test flight today.

18th May 2011 -  777 G-YMMI Copenhagen trip.

Boeing 777-236ER G-YMMI operated the BA820/821 London Heathrow - Copenhagen rotation today in place of the usual Airbus A319/320/321.

17th May 2011 -  767 G-BZHC on Glasgow service.

Boeing 767-336ER G-BZHC operated the BA1492/BA1497 London Heathrow - Glasgow rotation today. Since British Midland International pulled out of the route BA’s loads have been consistently high and 767s are expected to become more frequent performers on the route.

17th May 2011 -  777 G-YMMI back from Cardiff.

Boeing 777-236ER G-YMMI positioned Cardiff-Wales - London Heathrow as BA9173. This aircraft is confirmed as being the last of the Four Class Rolls-Royce (G-YMM*) series aircraft to be fitted with new First.

16th May 2011 -  A320 G-BUSJ back at Heathrow.

Following four days of operations from London Gatwick Airbus A320 G-BUSJ positioned back to London Heathrow tonight as BA9251 and will re-enter service from Heathrow tomorrow.

16th May 2011 -  777 G-VIIG Cardiff Maintenance Swap.

Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIG positioned London Heathrow - Cardiff-Wales as BA9174. Sister G-VIIV positioned Cardiff-Wales - London Heathrow as BA9173.

16th May 2011 - BA to trial IPADS in First Class on GE Engined 777s.

Starting on 18th May British Airways is to trial IPADS in place of the current Personal DVD machines in First Class on one of the General Electric engined (G-RAES/G-VII* series) Boeing 777-236ERs. Refurbishment of these aircraft with New First and new In Flight Entertainment is not expected to commence until November.

16th May 2011 - BA162 resumes direct operation.

BA162 Tel Aviv - London Heathrow resumed direct operations today following the fuel contamination at Tel Aviv with Boeing 767-336ER G-BNWM operating the service.


15th May 2011 - 777 G-YMMP to London Gatwick.

4 Class Boeing 777-236ER G-YMMP positioned from London Heathrow - London Gatwick as BA9153 in order to operate the BA2043/BA2042 London Gatwick - Male rotation. The aircraft positioned back to London Heathrow on 16th May as BA9154.

13th May 2011 -  777 G-VIIT on UK Domestics.

Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIT operated the BA2940/BA2941 London Gatwick - Edinburgh and BA2908/BA2909 today London Gatwick to Manchester rotations today.  


13th May 2011 - Gatwick shorthaul fleet availability.

In light of all the substitutions and cancellations on shorthaul services from Gatwick the status of the Gatwick shorthaul fleet today was:

A319s G-EUOB and G-EUPS both in service.

Boeing 737-400s G-DOCA, G-DOCB, G-DOCF, G-DOCG, G-DOCL, G-DOCN, G-DOCO, G-DOCS, G-DOCT, G-DOCU, G-DOCX, G-DOCY, G-GBTA and G-GBTB were all in service.

Boeing 737-400s G-DOCE and G-DOCH were not operating but did operate yesterday.

G-DOCV has been out of service since 2nd May.

G-DOCW has been out of service since 3rd May.

G-DOCZ has been out of service since 9th May.

13th May 2011 -  G-BUSJ at Gatwick.

A320 G-BUSJ positioned London Heathrow - London Gatwick today as BA9275 taking up service on the BA2540/BA2541 London Gatwick to Rome Fiumicino rotation.

12th May 2011 - 777 G-YMMB on UK Domestics.

Boeing 777-236ER G-YMMB operated the BA2960/2961 London Gatwick - Glasgow and BA2944/2945 London Gatwick - Edinburgh rotations today due to lack of Boeing 737-400 availability.


12th May 2011 - 747 Cardiff maintenance swap.

Boeing 747-436 G-BYGG positioned London Heathrow - Cardiff-Wales as BA9176. Sister G-CIVP positioned Cardiff-Wales - London Heathrow as BA9177. This aircraft is confirmed as having New First fitted.

13th May 2011 - Tel Aviv Fuel Not All Clear After All.

It seems that the Tel Aviv fuel situation is not all clear as reported yesterday. For the next several days the BA162 Boeing 767 operated service is scheduled to refuel in Larnaca whereas the BA164 Boeing 777 operated service is scheduled to operate directly to Heathrow.
