Following its diversion yesterday British Airways Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIB departed Bahrain in the early hours of this morning operating yesterday’s delayed BA124 Bahrain – London Heathrow as BA124D. There was contingency for this flight to operate via Paris CDG due to crew hours but the original crew were able to reach London Heathrow in sufficient time.

British Airways B777-200ER G-VIIH Continues from Kuwait, Diverts to Paris CDG.

Following its double diversions on 26th December, British Airways Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIH departed Kuwait this morning continuing the diverted BA125 London Heathrow – Bahrain of 26th December routing Kuwait – Bahrain as BA125D. The aircraft then operated yesterday’s delayed BA124 Bahrain – London Heathrow but diverted via Paris CDG for a cabin crew change due to crew not having sufficient hours to reach London Heathrow. British Airways Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIB operating BA125 London Heathrow – Bahrain (depart London Heathrow 27th December) diverted to Kuwait in the early hours this morning due to fog at Bahrain. The aircraft remained on the ground at Kuwait until late tonight when it continued Kuwait – Bahrain as BA125D.

British Airways today confirmed that the BA458/BA459 London Heathrow – Madrid rotation will switch to Boeing 777-200ER operation from 26th March 2017. This is loaded for both the Summer and Winter 2017 timetables.

British Airways Boeing 777-236ER G-YMMR operating BA2238 Lima – London  Gatwick had started its Atlantic crossing early this morning when it turned back to Bridgetown for a safe landing due to a disruptive passengers. The aircraft continued Bridgetown – London Gatwick late tonight.

British Airways Announces Gatwick 3 Class B777-200ER Densification.

At today’s Capital Markets Day presentation British Airways announced that the 40J/24W/216Y configured London Gatwick Boeing 777-200ER fleet will be reconfigured to 32J/48W/252Y configuration with ten abreast seating in Economy Class from early 2018. With the addition of 52 seats comes the removal of three toilets. At present there are five aircraft in 40J/24W/216Y configuration, however the presentation states that 25 Boeing 777s will be converted to ten abreast seating in Economy. It is not clear what the other twenty aircraft are.

British Airways today announced a 3 x weekly London Gatwick – Fort Lauderdale service to commence on 6th July 2017. The three class Boeing 777-200ER service will initially operate to the following schedule:

British Airways Announce Seasonal London Gatwick – Cape Town Service.

British Airways today announced a seasonal 3 x weekly London Gatwick – Cape Town Three Class Boeing 777-200ER service. Services will commence on November 21st and operate to the following schedule:

British Airways Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIO, which has been under maintenance at Victorville since February 26th, positioned Victorville – Cardiff-Wales for further maintenance this evening as BA9179. The aircraft has been repainted at Victorville into White Union Flag with Crest livery and will now go through a C-check at Cardiff-Wales before returning to service.

British Airways Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIP, which has been under maintenance at Cardiff-Wales since 2nd March, positioned Cardiff-Wales – London Gatwick this morning as BA9177. The aircraft was scheduled to operate BA2263 London Gatwick – Kingston and passengers had boarded when passenger’s were advised that the flight was to be delayed until tomorrow.

British Airways B777-200ER G-VIIO Leaves Las Vegas.

British Airways Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIO, which has been at Las Vegas since September 8th 2015 when it suffered fire damage due to a failure of the #1 engine, positioned Las Vegas – Victorville this afternoon as BA9172. The aircraft flew a circitous route over Phoenix at 36,000 ft. At Victorville the aircraft will be repainted before returning to Cardiff-Wales for a maintenance check before returning to service.

British Airways Boeing 777-236ER G-YMMN arrived into Tokyo Narita as BA5 from London Heathrow this morning (depart London Heathrow 9th February), however the return BA6 has been delayed overnight. It is not clear whether this is due to a technical or a crew issue.

British Airways today announced that they will return to the London Heathrow – Tehran route with a 4 Class Boeing 777-200/200ER service commencing on 14th July 2016. Schedules are as follows:

British Airways B777-200ER G-VIIO Las Vegas Repair Confirmed Started.

Repairs are now confirmed to have commenced on British Airways Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIO following its fire incident at Las Vegas on September 10th 2015. The centre section of the aircraft is now surrounded by a large marquee type tent and the tailfin has been removed. The latest image we can find without the tent is dated January 18th, and the first reported sighting of the tent was on 24th January.

British Airways Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIX operating the London Gatwick – St Lucia sector of BA2159 London Gatwick – St Lucia – Port of Spain was close to Truro at 36,000 ft this morning when it turned back to London Gatwick due to a medical emergency on board. The aircraft was able to depart again shortly thereafter.

Following the technical issue it encountered on 28th December, British Airways Boeing 777-236ER G-YMMA departed Toronto in the early hours of this morning operating the delayed BA98 Toronto – London Heathrow of 28th December using callsign BA9607.

British Airways B777-200ER G-YMME Cardiff-Wales Test Flights.

British Airways Boeing 777-236ER G-YMME, which has been under maintenance at Cardiff-Wales since November 12th, undertook a five hour Cardiff-Wales – Cardiff-Wales test flight this afternoon as BA9172, routing off the north coast of Cornwall and flying large circuits at 40,000 ft. Late at night the aircraft undertook a further one hour test as BA9173 flying the same routing. These flights were operated by Boeing test pilots following fuel pump modifications.

British Airways B777-200ER G-VIIW Antigua Technical Issue.

British Airways Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIW operating BA2157 London Gatwick – Antigua – Tobago ended the flight as Antigua this afternoon with the airline citing a technical issue for the cancellation of the Antigua – Tobago sector. However this sector was cancelled before the aircraft arrived into Antigua.

BA233 London Heathrow – Moscow Domodedovo was cancelled this morning due to a technical issue with an unidentified Boeing 777-200ER, however British Airways Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIC operated London Heathrow – Moscow Domodedovo as BA233 without passengers four hours after the scheduled departure in order to operate the delayed BA232 Moscow Domodedovo – London Heathrow.

British Airways B777-200ER G-VIIT Gatwick Technical Issue.

British Airways Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIT was scheduled to operate the BA2037/BA2036 London Gatwick – Orlando rotation today, however the flight was cancelled with the airline citing both a technical issue and aircraft damage via different channels.

IAG Capital Markets Day Presentation Reveals B777-200ER Fleet Plans.

The IAG Capital Markets Day Presentation released today revealed plans for the British Airways Boeing 777-200ER fleet. The fleet’s life will be extended with aircraft operating a 30 year service life. London Gatwick based aircraft will see a reduction in the size of the Club World cabin meaning an increase in capacity of around 10%. London Heathrow based Four Class aircraft will be converted to Three Class configuration seeing an increase in capacity of around 25%. These capacity increase percentages indicate that the Economy Class cabins will remain in 3-3-3 configuration and will not be increased to 3-4-3 configuration.

British Airways B777-200ER G-VIIC Overnight Nairobi Delay.

British Airways Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIC operated BA65 London Heathrow – Nairobi today with a delay of around two hours. This did not give the aircraft sufficient time to turn around before an overnight closure of the runway at Nairobi. The return BA64 will therefore operate tomorrow morning.

British Airways B777-200ER G-VIIS Overnight Nairobi Delay.

British Airways Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIS operated BA65 London Heathrow – Nairobi with a 2 hour delay this afternoon after it was substituted in to operate the flight at short notice. The delay meant the aircraft was unable to turn around at Nairobi before an overnight runway closure due to works. The aircraft will therefore overnight at Nairobi.

British Airways Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIA arrived into Delhi in the early hours of this morning as BA143 from London Heathrow (depart London Heathrow 14th October), however aircraft encountered radome damage due to multiple bird strikes on approach. The return BA142 has been therefore been delayed indefinitely.

British Airways Boeing 777-236ER G-YMMC operating BA163 London Heathrow – Tel Aviv (depart London Heathrow 28th September) was approaching Brussels at 37,000 ft in the very early hours of this morning when it turned back to London Heathrow for a safe landing due to a medical issue on board. The flight has been delayed overnight.

Following the technical issue it encountered yesterday, British Airways Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIH departed Mumbai this afternoon operating yesterday’s BA198 Mumbai – London Heathrow as BA198D. However it is not clear whether this flight was carrying passengers as all sources show it as having been cancelled.

British Airways B777-200ER G-VIIW St Lucia Bird Strike.

British Airways Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIW operated the Port of Spain – St Lucia sector of BA2158 Port of Spain – St Lucia – London Gatwick this evening, however the onward sector to London Gatwick has been delayed overnight due to a bird strike on arrival at St Lucia.

British Airways B777-200ER G-YMML Heathrow Hydraulic Issue.

British Airways Boeing 777-236ER G-YMML operating BA292 Washington – London Heathrow (depart Washington 10th September) encountered hydraulic issues this morning and was therefore met by fire crews as a precaution when it landed at London Heathrow this morning. The south runway was temporarily out of service as the aircraft was unable to taxi under its own power.

British Airways B777-200ER G-VIIO Las Vegas Rejected Take off and Fire.

British Airways Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIO operating BA2276 Las Vegas – London Gatwick with 159 passengers and 13 crew rejected take off due to a catastrophic failure of the #1 General Electric engine. Passengers were evacuated with 14 reported minor injuries. The #1 engine appears to have encountered an uncontained failure with fire appearing to spread underneath the aircraft. The fire was extinguished after around four minutes. Both the port and starboard fuselage have sustained smoke and/or flame damage with the port side fuselage skin being burned through mainly below but also above the window line just forward of the left wing by Business Class seats 10A and 11A. The left wing fairing is burned away with damage also apparent to the leading edge of the left wing.

The aircraft first flew in January 1999. It last underwent heavy maintenance at Cardiff-Wales from 22nd March – 13th April 2014 and was also under maintenance at London Gatwick from 12th October – 18th October 2014.

Following its technical diversion to Frankfurt and return to London Heathrow on 4th August, British Airways Boeing 777-236ER G-VIIA operated the BA548/BA549 London Heathrow – Rome Fiumicino rotation this morning in place of the usual shorthaul Airbus, then returned to normal operations this evening operating BA183 London Heathrow – New York JFK.
